Edge Disjoint Paths in Moderately Connected Graphs

چکیده
We study the Edge Disjoint Paths (EDP) problem in undirected graphs: Given a graph G with n nodes and a set T of pairs of terminals, connect as many terminal pairs as possible using paths that are mutually edge disjoint. This leads to a variety of classic NP-complete problems, for which approximability is not well understood. We show a polylogarithmic approximation algorithm for the undirected EDP problem in general graphs with a moderate restriction on graph connectivity; we require the global minimum cut of G to be Ω(log n). Previously, constant or polylogarithmic approximation algorithms were known for trees with parallel edges, expanders, grids and grid-like graphs, and most recently, even-degree planar graphs. These graphs either have special structure (e.g., they exclude minors) or there are large numbers of short disjoint paths. Our algorithm extends previous techniques in that it applies to graphs with high diameters and asymptotically large minors.

Distinct edge geodetic decomposition in graphs
Let G=(V,E) be a simple connected graph of order p and size q. A decomposition of a graph G is a collection π of edge-disjoint subgraphs G_1,G_2,…,G_n of G such that every edge of G belongs to exactly one G_i,(1≤i ≤n). The decomposition 〖π={G〗_1,G_2,…,G_n} of a connected graph G is said to be a distinct edge geodetic decomposition if g_1 (G_i )≠g_1 (G_j ),(1≤i≠j≤n). The maximum cardinality of π...
متن کاملHighly Connected Infinite Digraphs Without Edge-Disjoint Back and Forth Paths Between a Certain Vertex Pair
We construct for all k ∈ N a k-edge-connected digraph D with s, t ∈ V (D) such that there are no edge-disjoint s → t and t → s paths. We use in our construction “self-similar” graphs which technique could be useful in other problems as well.
متن کاملLiftings in Finite Graphs and Linkages in Infinite Graphs with Prescribed Edge-Connectivity
Let G be a graph and let s be a vertex of G. We consider the structure of the set of all lifts of two edges incident with s that preserve edge-connectivity. Mader proved that two mild hypotheses imply there is at least one pair that lifts, while Frank showed (with the same hypotheses) that there are at least (deg(s) − 1)/2 disjoint pairs that lift. We consider the lifting graph: its vertices ar...
متن کاملDisjoint T-paths in tough graphs
Let G be a graph and T a set of vertices. A T -path in G is a path that begins and ends in T , and none of its internal vertices are contained in T . We define a T -path covering to be a union of vertex-disjoint T paths spanning all of T . Concentrating on graphs that are tough (the removal of any nonempty set X of vertices yields at most |X| components), we completely characterize the edges th...
متن کاملMinimum Power Connectivity Problems
Given a (directed or undirected) graph with costs on the edges, the power of a node is the maximum cost of an edge leaving it, and the power of the graph is the sum of the powers of its nodes. Motivated by applications for wireless networks, we consider some fundamental network design problems under the power minimization criteria. Let G = (V, E) be a graph with edge-costs {ce : e ∈ E} and let ...
